Moroccan Boucherouite Rugs

Boucherouite, (pronounced boo-shay-reet), is a rug style specific to rural tribes of Morocco. They came into existence to replace the traditional materials used for weaving in the 1960's (mainly sheep's wool) and are hand-loomed by Berber women from recycled rag strips and yarns from a variety of 'found' textile remnants including wool, cotton, synthetic fibres, Lurex, nylon and plastic – which is why they are also known as 'rag rugs'. A one-of-a-kind, these special rugs are an artwork in itself, featuring improvisatory patterns and an array of expressive colour. The difficult choice is to decide whether it will adorn your wall or floor.
